Internet Innovations in India: AI Infrastructure Surge

Projecting AI infrastructure growth in India, NVIDIA's founder and CEO Jensen Huang today (October 24) stated that by the end of this year, India will have nearly 20 times more computing infrastructure than a year ago. Huang addressed the NVIDIA AI Summit 2024 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. This monumental growth comes on the back of NVIDIA’s partnerships with Yoda, VTE, and Tonic Communication to enhance computing infrastructure.

The Role of AI Ecosystem Infrastructure

Huang also pointed out that the first part of building an AI ecosystem is the AI infrastructure, followed by the operating system of AI powered by large language models. He noted that building Language Learning Models (LLMs) in Indian languages presents significant challenges due to the nation’s linguistic diversity. Huang further mentioned that local collaborations are underway to develop a Hindi LLM.

Challenges in Language Model Development

“We have worked with partners here to make a Hindi large language model... This is the hardest language model in the world. If India can figure out how to make a large Hindi language model, then anything can be done,” Huang stated in his speech.
