Internet Subscribers Surge in Q2: TRAI Data Unveiled
The April-June quarter saw a notable growth in the number of internet users in India, climbing from 95.44 crore to 96.96 crore, an increase of 1.59 percent. According to the latest TRAI report, the number of broadband users also rose significantly, with wired internet subscriptions increasing by 3.90 percent to 3.511 crore.
Broadband and Wired Internet Growth
- Broadband users grew from 92.407 crore to 94.075 crore.
- Narrowband users experienced a decline from 3.034 crore to 2.885 crore.
- Wired internet subscribers saw an uptick from 3.379 crore, reflecting a steady growth pattern.
Monthly Average Revenue Per User (ARPU)
For wireless services, the monthly ARPU surged by 2.55 percent to Rs 157.45, while a year-on-year analysis shows an increase of 8.11 percent. Specifically:
- Prepaid ARPU rose from Rs 150.74 to Rs 154.80.
- Postpaid ARPU increased from Rs 187.85 to Rs 189.17.
Telephone Subscribers Update
The total number of telephone subscribers in India also increased, reaching 120.564 crore, marking a growth of 0.53 percent. Significantly, the share of rural subscriptions improved from 44.52 percent to 44.67 percent.
