Mastodon Introduces User-Friendly Features in Version 4.3
Mastodon Version 4.3: What’s New?
Mastodon has recently launched its Version 4.3 update, aimed at improving the overall usability of its web app. This new update is packed with efficiency-boosting features designed to enhance the user experience.
Personalized Recommendations
One standout feature is the introduction of a Who to follow carousel located in the home tab. This tool offers a mix of generalized results based on popularity in your language and personalized suggestions tailored to users you already follow. This is a pivotal step towards enhancing user engagement.
Grouped Notifications
- Mastodon now clusters notifications to provide a summarized view, allowing users to quickly grasp how many people have boosted or favorited their content.
- Users will also be informed if they lose followers due to a server's moderator action, alongside the ability to export these followers into a list.
Enhanced Notifications Control
The new notification controls offer flexibility; users can set preferences to either delete specific notifications or direct them to separate inboxes for streamlined viewing. For instance, notifications from new or unapproved accounts can now be filtered out for user convenience.
Design Tweaks and Improvements
Alongside these functional enhancements, Mastodon has also revamped its design elements, adding new dialog boxes and icons while allowing for photo reordering in the post composer. Hovering over a username now provides a preview to follow or unfollow users seamlessly.
These changes have been gradually rolled out over the past 11 months to users on the mastodon.social server. Users on other servers will receive updates once their respective instances are upgraded.
