Samsung Smart Home Update Causes Boot Loop Issues

A Samsung smart home software update released this week has left many users of the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 (including Lite, Plus, 5G, A90, and M51 versions) facing an infinite boot loop issue. This malfunction effectively rendered their devices unusable.

Identifying and Fixing the Bug

According to reports on Reddit, the problems stemmed from an automatic update to the Samsung SmartThings framework app. Fortunately, Samsung has responded by replacing the buggy update with a new version that does not brick these devices from 2019.

While many users expressed relief, some recommended disabling auto-updates as a precaution. Samsung service centers in Korea have also developed a fix that successfully avoids the need for a factory reset, which often results in irreversible data loss.

Additional Recent Issues

Besides the SmartThings app problem, it's important to note that Samsung had to withdraw a separate update that caused camera issues on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This latest event occurred simultaneously with Samsung's SDC24 event, where new smart home features, including a smart door key for Galaxy devices, were announced.
