Explore Microsoft AI Features: Latest Innovations in Windows Update
New Copilot+ PC Experiences
Microsoft has announced new features for its Copilot+ PCs. Powered by a 40+ TOPS NPU, these devices will see additional features to further enhance user experience. Microsoft confirmed that starting in November, Copilot+ PC models from brands including Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, and Microsoft Surface will offer improved AI capabilities.
Recall (Preview)
The major highlight of the recent update is the Recall feature. The feature is currently in Preview and enables users to instantly find files they’ve previously seen on their PCs. Microsoft emphasises additional security layers following customer feedback, with users able to opt in to saving snapshots and using Windows Hello for secure access.
Windows Recall will first appear on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs in October. The Intel and AMD powered PCs will get it in November.
Click to Do (Preview)
Another feature that Microsoft has announced is Click to Do. It simplifies workflows by adding an interactive overlay that provides suggested quick actions. Users can access tools like Visual Search, background blur in Photos, and text editing commands such as rewriting or summarising.
The feature can be activated on any screen by pressing the Windows key and using the mouse to interact with the overlay, which will work with applications such as Snipping Tool or Print Screen.
Improved Windows Search
Windows built-in universal search feature has also been updated. The search in Windows 11 with the latest update allows users to find files, documents, and settings easily by describing the content in simple terms. It works offline using the integrated Neural Processing Unit of the processor. This feature will initially be available in File Explorer and will expand to Windows Search and Settings in the coming months.
Super Resolution in Photos
Microsoft has also updated the Photos app with Super Resolution that lets users enhance the quality of low-resolution or older images without compromising on the clarity. The tool is powered by AI and according to the company, it can improve image resolution by up to eight times – up to 4K resolution – in seconds.
Generative Fill and Erase in Paint
Generative Fill and Erase feature will come to Microsoft Paint app. Using the feature, users can remove or add elements to an image using an AI-based tool.
AI-enabled Apps for Arm-based Copilot+ PCs
Microsoft highlighted the growing availability of native apps for Arm-based Copilot+ PCs, with more applications being optimised for the platform. Popular apps such as Chrome, Zoom, and Spotify are already supported, with additional apps like Google Drive and Vegas Pro expected soon. The VPN and printer spaces are also expanding, with major VPN providers already available on the platform.
Windows 11 Version 24H2 Rollout
Alongside these Copilot+ PC updates, the Windows 11 version 24H2 update has begun rolling out. The update brings features such as Energy Saver, Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, and HDR background support. The taskbar, system tray and File Explorer has been updated to make things more productive and user-friendly.
