Mobile Internet Services Suspended in Assam for Exam Integrity
Mobile Internet Services Disruption in Assam
The mobile internet services in Assam will be disabled for eight hours on Sunday, September 29, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The decision, issued by the state government, is to ensure a fair and transparent process for the written examination of Class-III posts in various government departments.
Exam Details and Protocols
Approximately 7.34 lakh candidates will partake in the examinations, which will unfold in two distinct shifts: the first for Bachelor’s Degree level Class-III posts from 9 AM to 12 PM and the second for HSLC (Driver) positions from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) is overseeing the examination across 822 centres throughout 27 districts.
- Objective: To guarantee the selection of candidates solely on merit.
- Aim: Prevent any unlawful activities during the examination.
The chief secretary clarified that while mobile internet services would be interrupted, landline broadband and voice calls would remain operational. This strategic disruption aims to curtail the use of various mobile applications like Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube, which have been previously exploited for unfair means.
Legal Implications
This suspension is enforced under Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, as outlined in the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services rules. Violating this order may lead to serious penalties under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
