Essential Tips for Switching iPhones Seamlessly
Back Up Your Old iPhone or iPad
First, you need to back up your old device, which you can do via iCloud or your computer. Follow these steps:
Using iCloud
- Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi.
- Go to Settings, tap your name at the top, and select iCloud.
- Choose iCloud Backup, toggle it on and click Back Up Now.
Using a Mac
Plug your iPhone or iPad into your MacBook or iMac and open Finder. Select your device under Locations, click Back Up Now under the General tab, and encrypt your backup to save Health and Activity data.
Using a Windows Computer
Download iTunes, connect your device via USB, click the iPhone/iPad button, and go to Summary > Back Up Now. Encrypt your backup to include Health data.
Swap SIMs or Activate eSIM
Once backed up, sort your SIM card. If in the US, remember newer iPhones use eSIM. Activate an existing eSIM during setup or swap a physical SIM from your old device.
Turn On Your New Device
Charge both devices fully. For iOS 12.4 or later, use Quick Start:
- Turn on your new device, ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
- Place near the old device to start the transfer.
- Follow on-screen instructions to complete setup.
Restore Your Backup
If not using Quick Start, continue setup until you reach Apps & Data. Choose to restore from iCloud or your computer, ensuring a stable Wi-Fi connection during the process.
That's It!
Enjoy your new iPhone or iPad.
