Lighting Solutions: Eve Light Switch Embraces Matter for Smart Homes

Lighting Technologies Revolutionized

Eve Systems has introduced its latest product, the Eve Light Switch, which now embraces Matter technology. Priced at $50, this in-wall device is enhanced with a Thread radio that enables it to function as a router node in Thread mesh networks. The Eve Light Switch is designed as a paddle-style on/off switch (not a dimmer), capable of managing lighting loads efficiently:

  • 15-amp incandescent and tungsten loads up to 600 watts
  • 15-amp resistive loads up to 1800 watts

The installation requires a neutral wire and supports both single-pole and 3-way applications.

Simple Setup and Functionality

Unlike its predecessors, which required an Apple Home hub, the new Eve Light Switch offers local control without needing one. Users can control their lighting through their smartphones or via voice assistants such as Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant. The Eve app, currently limited to iOS, allows users to schedule operations, turning the switch on and off automatically.

For those with older models, a firmware update will bring Matter support, enhancing their existing devices.

Potential for Smart Home Automation

By integrating with additional sensors, such as the Eve Motion, homeowners can elevate automation options and enjoy enhanced control even from outside their residences.
