Corning's Further Investments in India

In addition to the Tamil Nadu plant, Corning is set to establish another facility in Hyderabad, focusing on producing glass vials and tubes for vaccine storage. This investment underscores Corning's commitment to addressing the challenges presented by the global pandemic, particularly as India emerges as a key player in vaccine production.

Joint Ventures Enhancing Production

The new facilities will operate as part of a joint venture between Corning and Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies, which is affiliated with Indian firm Optiemus Infracom. With an estimated total investment of ₹1,000 crore for the Tamil Nadu facility, construction has already commenced and is expected to accelerate.

Future Ventures in Semiconductor and Aerospace

Moreover, Corning is currently exploring opportunities in the semiconductor sector, where it plans to supply glass components for advanced technologies. This includes lasers and packaging systems, with significant clients in lithography machines. Corning's insights also extend to investments in the aerospace and defense industries, where localization of manufacturing is becoming increasingly critical.
