Government of India Seeks NMC and Board Applications to Enhance Medical Education

New Delhi: The Health Ministry has initiated a search for candidates to fill pivotal posts at the nation's medical education regulators, particularly within the National Medical Commission (NMC). Following a series of administrative troubles, applications are invited for the presidency, secretary roles, and essential positions across the NMC's four boards: Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), Postgraduate Medical Education Board (PGMEB), Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB), and Medical Assessment Rating Board (MARB).

The NMC, which succeeded the Medical Council of India, is grappling with internal crises. It raised issues with the health ministry, necessitating urgent reforms. Recent reports indicate conflicts among the boards, affecting decisions on medical college applications. This turmoil follows recent controversies surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which has seen over 2.3 million candidates this year.

The health ministry has received several complaints about inconsistent actions among the boards, prompting discussions about regulatory efficiency. As the NMC aims to restore order and transparency, the ministry’s role in rehabilitating the medical education system is becoming increasingly critical.
