Ayurveda Treatment Now Part of Ayushman Bharat Scheme: Enhancing Holistic Care

Significant Integration of Ayurveda Treatment

The Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) has announced that ayurveda treatment packages will be included in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme. This inclusion marks a pioneering effort to integrate traditional systems into modern healthcare frameworks.

Comprehensive Treatment Packages

These newly introduced ayurvedic packages encompass a wide range of services, including:

• Medications
• Treatment centers
• Wellness programs
• Operative procedures

The packages cater to various ailments from common colds to more severe conditions like cancer, emphasizing holistic approaches.

Broadening Healthcare Access

In addition to addressing common diseases, these packages will also cover non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. With 170 packages ready for launch, the integration signifies a significant shift towards inclusive health.

Affordable and Accessible Care

The National Health Authority (NHA) has ensured that these ayurvedic packages remain affordable for families, with discussions currently underway with insurance firms for seamless implementation. The AB-PMJAY scheme offers coverage up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for hospitalizations.

Enhancing Public Healthcare Infrastructure

AYUSH Minister Prataprao Jadhav has revealed plans for establishing special medical stores at the tehsil level, akin to 'Janaushadhi Kendras'. This initiative will enhance public access to AYUSH medications, promoting the use of traditional and herbal medicines in both urban and rural regions.
