Ogun State's government has urged traditional herbalists to document their herbal products. This important initiative aims to enhance the credibility and accessibility of herbal solutions that can effectively treat ailments where conventional drugs may fall short.

Importance of Documentation

During a recent meeting in Abeokuta, Dr. Kafayat Lawal, the Executive Secretary and Registrar of the State Alternate Medicine Board (OGAMB), emphasized the need for proper documentation of genuine herbal medicines. She noted that historical issues with documentation by alternate medicine practitioners have hampered the growth of the practice.

Support from the Government

  • Government will facilitate laboratory tests and clinical trials.
  • Approval processes through NAFDAC are assured for effective herbal solutions.
  • Support will include packaging, branding, and proprietary rights for practitioners.

Community Response

The national president of the Ewedayepo Traditional Healers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Adesina Olugbemi, echoed this sentiment, praising government efforts in advancing alternative medicine.
