AI for Medical Professionals: Course Overview

The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) has introduced a new online course titled 'AI for Medical Professionals', in collaboration with the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and IHub-Data. This 12-week orientation program aims to equip medical professionals with essential AI skills.

Course Content

  • Applications: Enhancing patient care, diagnosis, prognosis, operational efficiency
  • Ethics: Governance issues related to AI in healthcare

Participants will engage through video lectures, weekly sessions, and practical case studies, complemented by quizzes and assignments to earn certification.

Course Impact

This initiative has attracted about 200 medical professionals from 41 specialties across 56 cities. The course was virtually launched by notable figures, including Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of DST, Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin, President of NAMS, and Prof. P J Narayanan, Director of IIIT Hyderabad.

Prof. Narayanan indicated the necessity of sharing IIITH's AI expertise with the medical community for better decision-making and diagnostics. Dr. Sarin expressed optimism that this course would facilitate the adoption of AI in medical settings, marking progress towards integrating AI into medical curricula.
