ManCave Conference Tackles Mental Health and Suicide Prevention in New Haven

Significance of the ManCave Conference
The 6th ManCave Conference in New Haven gathered community members, mental health professionals, and local organizations on Dixwell Ave to confront a growing mental health crisis among African American men. Organized by St. Matthew's Unison Free Will Baptist (UFWB) Church, the conference focused on creating a stigma-free environment where men can openly discuss their emotional health and mental health challenges.
Highlighting Suicide Prevention
- Suicide is the third leading cause of death for Black Americans aged 10 to 24.
- The fastest-growing suicide rate is among adolescents aged 10 to 17 compared to other racial groups.
- Rates of suicide among African American men are four times higher than those among African American women.
Pastor Kevin Hardy emphasized the importance of providing tools to help men navigate their mental health and address suicide prevention proactively.
