BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) has designated the biochemistry department of SCB Medical College and Hospital (MCH) at Cuttack as a university research centre, marking an important milestone in medical education. According to Vice-chancellor Prof. Manash Ranjan Sahoo, this announcement was made during the conference of the State Biochemistry Association held at Jagannath Medical College, Puri on Sunday.
The newly designated research centre aims to foster innovative research activities and enhance the academic environment within the department. Prof. Sahoo emphasized that this will ultimately boost research outputs and provide faculty and students access to greater resources and collaborative opportunities.
Legacy of Research Excellence
Established in 1963, the biochemistry department at SCB MCH is already recognized for its contributions to medical research. Notably, it was the first in the state to pioneer newborn screening for congenital diseases, including G6PD deficiency and phenylketonuria.
