FORT WORTH – Fort Worth police responded to a mental health call Monday night, where gunshots were heard. The victim was found dead and the department confirmed that two officers fired their weapons.
Few details were released as authorities stated the investigation is in its early stages. Officers arrived at the 4800 block of Selkirk Drive around 6 p.m. following reports of a man with a weapon who intended to harm himself.
Unable to locate him, dispatch pinpointed the victim's phone, leading officers to find him near his vehicle. Gunshots were heard, and the man was discovered deceased, according to Fort Worth police.
Executive Assistant Chief Robert Alldredge mentioned that the circumstances leading to the gunfire and the man's death are under investigation by local authorities. Originally, MedStar reported that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The victim's identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin. Fortunately, no officers or community members were injured in the ongoing police shooting investigation.
