Strategic Expansion to Enhance Health Using Technology

The Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) aims to foster health innovations by establishing a presence in the Greater Bay Area. CEO Andy Fung emphasized this plan on Monday, saying, “One of our long-term directions is to align our development with that of the Greater Bay Area.”

This region, comprising nine cities in Guangdong province along with Hong Kong and Macau, is positioned for economic integration fueled by Beijing’s initiatives. By collaborating more extensively in this area, NAMI can harness further opportunities for technology licensing to generate income.

Supporting SMEs in Health and Energy Solutions

NAMI is crucial for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) looking for research assistance, especially in fields requiring advanced materials. With over 200 researchers, 60% holding doctorates, NAMI enhances product development in areas like healthcare, environmental protection, and energy innovations.

  • Technology breakthroughs include lithium-ion battery innovations used widely in mobile devices.
  • Collaborations with local authorities have resulted in less disruptive roadworks through the use of self-compacting backfill materials.

By extending its capabilities, NAMI not only prepares for future technological needs but also prioritizes local applications, ensuring that innovations benefit Hong Kong first.
