Significant Increase in Medical Colleges

The Indian government's establishment of 60 new medical colleges this year marks a significant step forward in medical education. With the latest expansion, the total number of medical colleges has risen impressively from 387 in 2013-14 to 766 in 2024-25, showcasing a dedicated effort to support healthcare education.

Growing Number of MBBS Seats

The rise in medical colleges accompanies a notable increase in medical seats. MBBS seats have experienced a 6.30% growth, climbing from 108,940 in the 2023-24 academic year to 115,812 in 2024-25. Over a decade, MBBS seats have surged by 125%, adding 64,464 seats since 2013-14.

Postgraduate Medical Seats Expansion

Postgraduate medical seats also reflect a positive trend with a rise of 5.92%, reaching 73,111 this year compared to 69,024 in the previous year. The total PG seats have doubled from 31,185 in 2013-14 to the current figures, marking a 127% increase.

Resolution of AIIMS Darbhanga Land Issue

Acknowledging the significance of infrastructure, Union Health Minister JP Nadda highlighted the resolution of the land issue for AIIMS Darbhanga. The Bihar government has allocated 150.13 acres of land for the new AIIMS, supporting affordable tertiary healthcare.
