Goa News Today: New Opportunities in Medical Admissions

In an exciting update, Goa news reported that the National Medical Commission has authorized GMC to increase its first-year MBBS seat capacity from 180 to 200 for the 2024-25 academic year.

Admission Details

The additional 20 MBBS seats will be part of the second admission round for NEET-based courses, taking place at the directorate of technical education from September 16 to 18.

  • 17 seats will be reserved for Goa students
  • 3 seats allocated under the All-India Quota

This increase is a crucial development for students aspiring to pursue an MBBS degree, especially those who were previously considering dental courses due to limited availability.

Ayurveda Seats and Other Updates

In addition to the MBBS seats, 100 ayurveda seats will be available for the first time during this admission cycle, starting Monday. These seats were not offered in the initial round as per the centrally released schedule.

The GMC has a history of increasing its capacity, with previous approvals allowing an increase from 150 to 180 seats in the academic year 2019-20. Besides MBBS, GMC can also expand seats in specialized areas like MD and MS programs.
