Goa Medical College Boosts MBBS Capacity to Meet Healthcare Needs
Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has received crucial approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to expand its MBBS seats from 150 to 200 for the academic year 2024-25. This increase is a pivotal move in response to the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane stated that this growth will allow more students the opportunity to pursue a medical career at GMCH, the leading government healthcare provider in the state. The initiative aims to nurture a new wave of medical talent that is well-equipped to serve the healthcare needs of the community.
In addition to the MBBS expansion, the NMC has also sanctioned increases in various postgraduate courses at GMCH, enhancing the overall educational capacity in the region. Specifically, seat numbers for MD (Radiodiagnosis) have been increased from six to seven, for MS (General Surgery) from six to fifteen, and for MS (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) from six to eight, among others. This progressive step underlines the government’s unwavering dedication to bolster healthcare education and services in Goa, ensuring that future professionals are well-prepared to tackle medical challenges.
