Gaming Innovations in Super Mario Party Jamboree

Super Mario Party Jamboree boasts big numbers: 110 minigames, seven game boards, and an online mode that supports up to 20 players. But this new Mario Party — the third entry in the franchise on Nintendo Switch and the 19th overall — doesn’t appear to coast on volume. Instead, there are inventive new twists on the Mario Party formula in Jamboree, including new cooperative modes and fun dynamic new boards.

Exciting New Game Boards

During a recent preview event in New York City, I played Super Mario Party Jamboree with a small group of media. Our first experience was a round of Jamboree on a brand-new board called Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party. At the center of the board is, naturally, a giant Wiggler vibing in a circular pit. Players can actively move it around to alter the map to their advantage.

  • Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party (new board)
  • Roll ‘em Raceway (new board)
  • Goomba Lagoon (new board)
  • King Bowser’s Keep (new board)
  • Rainbow Galleria (new board)
  • Classic boards: Mario’s Rainbow Castle, Western Land

Koopathlon: The Ultimate Online Challenge

More interesting than any of the boards was the Koopathlon, an online mode for up to 20 players — the highest number ever in Mario Party online play. Our session had five human players racing against 15 bots to complete laps around a track.

  • Competitive minigames with interesting challenges
  • 20-player mode for chaos and fun

Bowser Kaboom Squad: Cooperative Play

The most fun I had was in Bowser Kaboom Squad mode, where up to eight players cooperate to battle King Koopa. Players grab explosives and launch them while engaging in group minigames.

  1. Test your reflexes with amusing challenges
  2. Gather bombs and use power-ups strategically

Super Mario Party Jamboree is packed with new additions, like all-new minigames and two fresh characters, Pauline and Ninji, but it retains the essence of the Mario Party experience. If you missed the previous titles, Jamboree is a fantastic entry point to dive back into the action.

The game is set to release on Nintendo Switch on October 17.
