Valve Promises Fairness with Steam Deck Updates
Valve's Commitment to Steam Deck Users
Following the release of the Steam Deck OLED, Valve has made clear that the company will not implement constant hardware revisions for its popular handheld. This decision is aimed at ensuring fairness to customers.
No Yearly Updates Planned
In an interview with Reviews.org, Steam Deck designers Lawrence Yang and Yazan Aldehhayyat emphasized that there is no reason for frequent incremental updates. Yang stated, 'We are not doing the yearly cadence' and assured fans that the company intends to provide meaningful updates rather than minor tweaks.
Significant Hardware Leap Required
Yang also mentioned that the next generation of the Steam Deck will only be released when significant advancements in hardware become available, especially concerning battery life. When discussing future developments, he noted, 'We really do want to wait for a generational leap' before proceeding.
No Immediate New Models
As it stands, Valve offers two models: an LCD and an OLED version. With the OLED model just launched in 2023, there are currently no new versions in the pipeline, although future iterations may include a slimmer model.
