Exciting Developments for Halo as 343 Industries Moves to Unreal Engine 5
Multiple Halo Games in Development
At Halo World Championship, 343 debuted new Halo footage rendered in Unreal Engine 5, showcasing different environments and series protagonist Master Chief. The footage presented is not from a currently developing game but part of a Foundry project that will support future Halo games.
Transition to Unreal Engine 5
343 Industries, now rebranded as Halo Studios, confirmed that multiple games utilizing Unreal Engine 5 are in development. However, no timelines for these titles have been announced. The studio, having last worked on Halo Infinite, seeks to enhance game production by moving away from the older Slipspace engine.
“Respectfully, some components of Slipspace are almost 25 years old,” stated art director Chris Matthews.
By adopting Unreal Engine 5, the studio aims to reduce development times, allowing simultaneous work on multiple Halo projects. While Project Foundry hints at future titles, don’t expect a release soon.
“We should talk about things when we have things to talk about,” studio head Pierre Hintze commented.
