Destiny 2: Gjallarhorn Returns - A Unique Opportunity for Players
Destiny 2: A Unique Offering from Xur
Destiny 2's enigmatic peddler of rare wares, Xur, has returned to the Tower with something *special*. From September 20 until the weekly reset on September 24, Bungie has permitted Xur to sell the Exotic Rocket Launcher Gjallarhorn for a modest 23 Strange Coins. But, why is this noteworthy?
Why Gjallarhorn is Significant
- The weapon is usually obtainable only from the Grasp of Avarice Dungeon included in Destiny 2's paid-for 30th Anniversary Pack originally released in December 2021.
- September 20, 2024, also marks the 10th anniversary of Xur first selling Gjallarhorn in the original Destiny.
Due to its rarity and unparalleled power as an Exotic heavy in 2014, Gjallarhorn was a highly sought-after piece of kit in the franchise's formative years, becoming easier to obtain with the 2016 Rise of Iron expansion. Notably, Xur had never sold Gjallarhorn in Destiny 2 before, so this is a rare occasion.
Additional Offerings
In addition to Gjallarhorn, catalysts for Le Monarque and Polaris Lance, both meta-relevant weapons, are also available for 71 Strange Coins each.
As for whether Gjallarhorn's appearance in Xur's store is a one-off to celebrate a milestone or a recurring surprise, the latter seems less likely since Xur has never sold it in the sequel. Destiny 2's Episode Echoes season concludes on October 8, when it will be replaced by Episode Revenant.
