The union cabinet has approved the establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR) in Mumbai. This center aims to create intellectual property (IP) for domestic consumption and global outreach.

Training and Development

• The NCoE will offer specialized training programs to equip both amateurs and professionals with the latest skills in AVGC-XR technologies.
• It will operate as an incubation center, nurturing startups and early-stage companies in the AVGC-XR field.
• Research and development will be a key focus, bringing together experts from various disciplines such as computer science, engineering, design, and art.

A Shift Towards Innovation

This initiative highlights India's rich historical and cultural heritage and aims to position the nation as a content hub, enhancing its global soft power and attracting foreign investments.

• In her budget speech for FY23, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the formation of an AVGC Task Force.
• The task force recommended the establishment of a national AVGC Mission with a dedicated budget to promote the sector.
• State governments are rolling out policies to strengthen the AVGC ecosystem, with initiatives like Rajasthan's AVGC-XR policy.
