Old Dominion Football Struggles Against Virginia Tech

NORFOLK, VA (WTKR) - At halftime, Old Dominion felt pretty good, down just four to Virginia Tech in front of a record crowd of 22,208 fans at S.B. Ballard Stadium. However, the Monarchs' familiar troubles reared their ugly heads. Old Dominion was sacked five times and was 2-for-13 on third downs, falling to the Hokies, 37-17. This marks Tech's first victory at ODU in three tries.

• The Hokies scored first with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kyron Drones to Jaylin Lane.
• Drones added a quarterback sneak for another score, leading the Hokies to a 14-0 lead.

Player Performances

ODU gained 243 rushing yards, but only 50 through the air. Bryce Duke was the Monarchs' leading rusher with 85 yards. On the other hand, Drones led the Hokies with 117 rushing yards and threw for 176 yards, accounting for two touchdowns.

Notably, ODU linebacker Jason Henderson missed his second consecutive game due to a knee injury.

Old Dominion falls to 0-3 and now has a bye week before facing Bowling Green on September 28. The Hokies will host Rutgers next Saturday.
