Nigeria's crude oil production has seen a notable increase, rising to 1.352 million barrels per day in August from 1.307mbpd in July 2024. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries disclosed this information in its September Monthly Oil Market Report.

Furthermore, an analysis indicates that the average daily crude output grew by 45,000 barrels per day, based on direct communication with the Nigerian government.

General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, reiterated the commitment to achieving a target of 2.2mbpd set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government by December 2024. He shared these insights during a visit to Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

To aid in this goal, two essential committees have been formed: the Defence Joint Monitoring Team and the Defence Joint Intelligence Infusion Centre. These bodies, established by Defence Headquarters, aim to combat the ongoing issue of oil theft by coordinating with military units and state governments.

General Musa emphasized the need for a different approach to meet the Commander-in-Chief's mandate, and recognized Operation Delta Safe's role in ensuring cooperation among security forces.

The Monitoring Team will identify weaknesses and suggest improvements, while the Infusion Centre will streamline intelligence related to oil theft and maintain quick responses to such criminal activities.

Musa praised Governor Fubara for promoting a peaceful atmosphere in Rivers State, allowing the Armed Forces to operate unimpeded. “We are grateful for your leadership and support,” he stated, acknowledging the importance of peace for developmental progress.
