A Texas Mega Millions player has won an estimated prize of $800 million, according to the lottery game. The player, who has not been identified, was the first individual to match all six numbers drawn since June. The winning ticket was sold at a Murphy USA convenience store and gas station in Sugar Land, Texas. The player chose a Quick Pick ticket, where a computer selects the numbers.

Winning Numbers and Prize Options

The winning numbers were white balls 1, 2, 16, 24, and 66, along with the gold Mega Ball 6. This is only the third Mega Millions jackpot win of 2024. A player from New Jersey had won $1.128 billion in March, while an Illinois player secured $552 million in June. The Texas player can opt for a lump cash sum of about $404.2 million or collect a larger total over several years; however, Mega Millions did not specify the earnings for the latter option.

Additional Wins and Upcoming Drawings

This win marks the 15th Mega Millions jackpot awarded in Texas, according to lottery officials. In addition to the jackpot, four tickets matched the five white numbers drawn, with each winning the game’s $1 million second-tier prize. These winning tickets were purchased in California, Florida, New York, and Washington. Furthermore, 47 players took home the game’s third-tier prize for matching four white balls and the Mega Ball, with ten players winning $40,000 thanks to having added the Megaplier.

The next Mega Millions drawing is set for Friday, Sept. 13, with the prize resetting to its current starting value of $20 million. Although Friday the 13th may be perceived as unlucky, seven Mega Millions jackpots have been won on that date.
