Microsoft India Secures Land for New Data Centre in Hinjawadi, Pune
Microsoft's New Land Acquisition in Pune
Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd has recently purchased a 16.4-acre land parcel in Pune's Hinjawadi suburb for an impressive Rs 520 crore. The transaction, confirmed through documents accessed by Square Yards, was conducted with Indo Global Infotech City LLP, the seller.
Expanding Data Centre Operations
This acquisition represents Microsoft's second major land purchase in Pune, following its prior acquisition of a 25-acre plot in Pimpri-Chinchwad for Rs 328 crore. The earlier plot is currently being developed into a data centre, reflecting Microsoft's increasing emphasis on strengthening its data centre operations.
Role of Hinjawadi in IT Development
Located in the tech-heavy Hinjawadi area, this new site is adjacent to the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, which serves as a hub for various technology giants and global capability centres. Microsoft has been proactive in expanding its data centre presence; earlier this year, it also acquired a 48-acre land parcel in Hyderabad for Rs 267 crore.
Focus on Data Localization
As a key player in the data services market, Microsoft, along with Google and Amazon Web Services, is anticipated to play a significant role in the localization of data in India through its data centres. Currently, Microsoft employs approximately 23,000 individuals across its development centres in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Noida, showcasing its substantial investment in India's tech ecosystem.
