Teamsters Union Urges Amazon to Set Bargaining Dates

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is calling on Amazon to agree to set bargaining dates for a union contract by December 15. Teamsters are no longer asking politely for Amazon to comply with the law. They insist that Amazon must come to the table and negotiate a contract with their workers.

According to Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien, “Thousands of Amazon workers around the country have courageously united to take on one of the world’s most abusive employers. Amazon has a legal obligation to recognize the Teamsters and begin negotiations.”

Context Behind the Strike

Workers at Amazon chose to strike through Cyber Monday, citing poor working conditions and low pay. This strike, known as “Make Amazon Pay,” was organized by UNI Global Union and Progressive International. The Teamsters Amazon National Negotiating Committee is in the process of finalizing its proposal for the first contract between Teamsters and Amazon.

Strikers are motivating more employees to join the picket line. According to a union representative, “This is our moment. Every day, more Amazon workers are joining this movement. If you work at Amazon—whether as a driver, warehouse worker, or in any role—we encourage you to join this fight for dignified wages and better careers. Please reach out to the Teamsters today.”
