Social Security payments for some recipients will be disrupted this September due to a calendar quirk. Specifically, those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will find no checks deposited this month. This disruption stems from the Social Security Administration's established annual payment schedule, which was predetermined, leading to confusion for some beneficiaries unaware of the change.

Social Security Payments and Calendar Quirks

This September, disruptions in Social Security payments are impacting millions. Social Security recipients, specifically those dependent on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), are set to receive no payment checks this month. The issue arises as September 1 lands on a Saturday, causing the payments to be issued on August 30 instead. This means SSI recipients will need to wait until October 1 for their next checks.

Impact on SSI Recipients

About 7.5 million individuals rely on SSI, with benefits capped at $943 monthly. In contrast, typical Social Security Retirement Benefits average $1,907. Regular retirement benefits remain unaffected and will be deposited based on the beneficiary’s birth month schedule.

Scheduled Payments for September

  • September 11: Payments for individuals born between the 1st and 10th.
  • September 18: Payments for individuals born between the 11th and 20th.
  • September 25: Payments for individuals born between the 21st and 31st.

Changes in SSI Application Process

Additionally, the Social Security Administration announced a new online application system for SSI starting in December. This overhaul aims to simplify the application process, making it faster and easier for applicants.
