Nana Patole Critiques Mahayuti Government on Women’s Safety and Farmers | Nagpur News Today
Nana Patole's Sharp Critique of the Mahayuti Government
Nagpur: Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole unleashed a blistering critique of the Mahayuti government, denouncing its abject failure to uphold law and order in the state. He underscored the staggering surge in crime, especially against women, attributing it to government apathy and alleged shielding of criminals.
Women's Safety and the Shakti Act
Addressing the media in Mumbai on Monday, the Sakoli MLA castigated the Shinde-Fadnavis-Pawar government for its inability to bring out the ‘Shakti Act’, a legislation aimed at safeguarding women from violence in Maharashtra. He said the bill has been languishing with the President of India for two years without garnering approval. “While they pontificate about women’s safety, the government remains inert in implementing laws that could genuinely protect them,” Patole asserted.
Deteriorating Law and Order
The MPCC chief also blamed the government for enfeebling the police force, which he contends has emboldened criminals. Patole cited recent incidents, including a heist in a police colony in Mahim and an assault on a police sub-inspector in Pune, as evidence of the deteriorating law and order situation. He accused the government of providing sanctuary to criminals, enabling them to operate with impunity.
Concerns about Farmers and Pension Schemes
Patole further rebuked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his recent oration in Jalgaon, where he allegedly disregarded the plight of farmers. He accused Modi of making specious promises and questioned the sincerity of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who spoke about farmer welfare.
Patole also denounced the state government’s decision to implement the Revised National Pension Scheme, which he characterized as a betrayal of government employees. He contended that the old pension scheme should be reinstated, as the new one is perceived as inequitable and has caused pervasive discontentment among state employees.
Infrastructure Issues and Environmental Concerns
Finally, Patole questioned the delay in completing the Mumbai-Goa Highway, accusing the government of prioritizing contractors over the people of Konkan. He also raised apprehensions about the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board’s abrupt inspection of the Mercedes-Benz project in Chakan, insinuating ulterior motives behind the visit.
