Meituan's Keeta and AFK Journey Highlighted in Google Play's Best of 2024 for Android Apps

Google Play, the official online store for Android-based apps, has recognized Meituan-owned online delivery platform Keeta and fantasy role-playing game AFK Journey, developed by the global publishing unit of Shanghai firm Lilith Games, among the winners of its “Best of 2024” awards in Hong Kong.

Keeta, rolled out in Hong Kong in May last year, received the distinction as “Best Everyday Essential” on internet giant Google’s store in Hong Kong due to its seamless integration into daily routines. Meituan’s first food delivery service outside the mainland, Keeta surpassed Foodpanda for the first time in Q1 2024, leading Hong Kong’s food-delivery market with a 43% share, as reported by Measurable AI.

In addition, AFK Journey, from Lilith’s unit Farlight Games, won this year’s “Best Game” award among all video-gaming apps on Google Play, praised for its expansive character roster and strategic battle system.

Others like casual game Eggy Party from NetEase and role-playing gacha game Honkai: Star Rail from miHoYo also received accolades, demonstrating the rising sophistication of app developers in China.

As Chinese-developed video games continue their aggressive overseas expansion, the sector generated US$5.2 billion in overseas sales for Q3 2024, marking a 20.8% increase from the previous year.
