Fresh Graduate Salaries in Hong Kong Outpace the Greater Bay Area

Recent research reveals that fresh graduates in Hong Kong are enjoying the highest starting salaries across the Greater Bay Area, with a notable increase of 9.3% this year. The average starting salary has reached HK$19,806 (US$2,550), surpassing Macau's 14,996 patacas (US$1,870) and Guangdong's 5,843 yuan (US$820). This data incorporates insights from a survey of 240,000 employees conducted between July and September 2024.

Rapid Growth in Macau and Guangdong

Macau led other regions with a growth rate of 16.4% for fresh graduate salaries, while Guangdong lagged with only a 4.2% increase. Importantly, all regions outpaced the overall salary growth for employees, which was recorded at 3.5% in Hong Kong, 2.7% in Macau, and 2.3% in Guangdong.

Sector-Specific Salary Insights

In sectors such as information technology, engineering, and research and development, demands for fresh graduates have significantly contributed to these salary increases. In Hong Kong, engineering graduates command the highest average starting salary at HK$21,974 per month, while non-degree holders can find lucrative opportunities in research and development with an average of HK$20,860 and HK$27,528, respectively.
