OpenAI X Account Hacked: Warning About $OPENAI Cryptocurrency Scam

Understanding the OpenAI $OPENAI Crypto Scam

On Monday evening, an official OpenAI account on X was taken over to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scam involving the $OPENAI token. At approximately 6:24 PM ET, the @OpenAINewsroom account, which had nearly 54,000 followers, made a now-deleted post.

The Deceptive Post

The post claimed, “We’re very happy to announce $OPENAI: the token bridging the gap between AI and blockchain technology.” According to the scam, all OpenAI users were eligible to claim an initial supply of $OPENAI and access future beta programs.

Risks of Connecting Wallets

Beware! The post included a link to a spoofed website, different from the official OpenAI URL. Visiting the site raised concerns, particularly a section prompting users to connect their wallets to claim $OPENAI. Connecting wallets may compromise one’s assets.

Lack of Response

As of now, OpenAI and X have not commented on the incident, and the compromised account has not provided any updates regarding the situation since its launch earlier this month.
